While other tablets, such as Apple’s iPad and Samsung’s Tab S series, try to be dual-service devices for both media consumption and media creation, Amazon’s tablets make it clear that they want you to see, read, and listen to as many media as you can. Whether you’re looking for something to read e-books, watch Netflix or YouTube, listen to music from Spotify or Amazon Music, or just surf the web and watch the news, the Fire line of tablets is perfect for you. Although Fire tablets don’t have any kind of cellular technology built in, that doesn’t mean you can’t take your movies on the go. There are many options within Fire OS that allow you to download your favorite movies to your tablet for offline viewing. Whether you want to save a movie purchased through Amazon or iTunes, or you want to download your favorite movies from Netflix, there are plenty of options for you on your Fire device. Let’s take a look at how to save your favorite movies.
Downloading Movies Purchased Through Amazon
Amazon is one of the top markets for both movie rentals and movie purchases, and considering that Amazon often has sales on digital purchases, it makes sense to buy your favorite movies to watch offline when you’re on the go or You cannot transmit over the Internet. Thanks to Amazon’s own interface, which allows you to browse both your library and recommended videos from the home screen, it’s easy to save your favorite content to your Fire tablet to watch movies on the go. Is that how it works.
First of all, as with everything on the Fire, you’ll want to make sure you’re logged into your Amazon account. This will ensure that you can easily purchase movies through Amazon without continually re-entering your account information on your tablet. Once logged in, go back to the home screen and swipe through the main interface until you reach the Video tab of the home screen. If you’re a main subscriber, chances are you’ll see this list populated with premium content, including Amazon’s original shows and movies, and some of its exclusive HBO content. If you already have purchases in your library, you can tap the library icon in the upper right corner of the screen to load your full list of movies and TV shows. Otherwise, tap on the Store icon to open the appropriate Amazon Instant Video store. Here you can browse movies in real time and not in real time and choose the content you want to buy on your device.
If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, you will want to go to the Rent or Buy tab to watch the movies and TV shows that appear here. You’ll find a list of recommended categories, along with movies for sale and new releases. If you are looking for a suitable movie, you can use the search function to search for it automatically. Once you’ve found the movie, you’ll see options to buy or rent the content on your device. It will be automatically added to the device and you can watch the movie in the library.
Inside the device’s Library tab, you’ll see a complete list of purchased and rented movies, along with a list of TV shows on a separate tab. Select the movie you want to download and the information page for your movie will open. If you are the owner of the movie, you will see a screen that alerts you that you have purchased it, along with the “Watch now” option and the “Download” option. If you click on the “Watch Now” option, the movie will be transmitted to your device; If you click on “Download”, the movie will be downloaded to your Fire device for offline viewing.
If you rented the movie, you will see the same two buttons to download or stream your video, but instead of displaying an alert that you have purchased the movie, you will see a message showing the number of days you have left to start watching the video . Each Amazon rental must be viewed within 30 days; once the movie has started, you will have access to finish it for 48 hours. Even if the movie is downloaded to your tablet, it will expire after the allotted time.
Finally, we must note that purchased TV shows can also be downloaded to your device, although you will have to load the series and scroll to the list of episodes for the season to download each show. Unlike movies, the TV show download button appears next to each episode title, as a small download icon on the right side of the screen. Each episode must be downloaded separately, although it is quite easy to add multiple downloads to the queue in just a few seconds.
Download streaming movies and shows on Amazon Prime
If you are an Amazon Prime subscriber, you probably already know that Amazon has a wide variety of streaming content available with your subscription. Original TV shows like The Tick , or movies like Manchester by the Sea are available to be watched and financed or owned by Amazon, but there is also a wide selection of movies and TV shows that were not originally produced with Amazon and that are they can stream with their subscription. HBO has a vast collection of its old content available on Amazon, for example, and you can catch up on previous seasons of shows like Doctor Who.for free as long as you are a paying Prime member. Most of this content, if not all, can be downloaded to your Fire tablet, making it easy to watch your favorite movies and TV shows while on the go and offline.
As described above, go to the video tab on the home screen of your device and tap on the store icon. This will load the entire store interface, with both streaming shows and movies, as well as rentals and new releases. To view the full collection of Prime content, click on the “Included with Prime” tab in the center of the screen. You will be able to see the full list of movies and TV shows available for Prime streaming. There are dozens of categories on the Amazon Prime list, with everything available from recommended movies to original series made exclusively for Prime members, but almost everything can be downloaded directly to your device.
From here, you will see the same screen described above for rentals and purchased movies, but instead of displaying the rental or purchase message, you will see a Prime logo along with “Included with Prime”. Below this are the standard buttons for “Watch Now,” which streams content to your device, and “Download,” which stores the movie offline on your device. And, as with purchased TV shows, you can download episodes of select Prime shows just by tapping the download icon next to each episode name.
Of course, there are some limitations to downloading Prime episodes on your tablet. For starters, not all Prime titles can be downloaded. Only some Prime titles are available for automatic download, which means that some movies or shows may not display the Download icon. There is no definitive list of what is and what is not downloadable; you will have to download the content on a case-by-case basis. You should also note that only paid Prime members can download Prime content; Amazon Household members can watch Prime shows or movies, but will not be able to download those titles to their devices. Lastly, there are some limits to downloading Prime content to your account:
- Available titles can only be downloaded to two compatible devices at the same time. This means that if you have a smartphone and two separate tablets, only two of those devices can contain the downloaded content at a time.
- Depending on your location, the content downloaded from Prime is limited to 15 or 25 titles at a time.
- Amazon says on its support site that downloaded videos stay on your device for thirty days, and must be finished after 48 hours of starting the movie, similar to a rental. It’s unclear if the Amazon site is talking about actual rentals, or if it’s actually discussing Prime content downloaded to your device. Therefore, there may be some time limits when downloading Prime content, similar to a rental.
In general, you will find that the Prime content download options are flexible enough to work well with most online streaming content, although they are not as available as if you were renting or buying a movie from Amazon’s own marketplace. Finally, we should mention that you can adjust the storage settings for your download (between your internal storage and your external micro SD cards) in your settings menu under “Storage”.
Downloading Movies Purchased Through iTunes
A year ago, the idea of watching movies purchased through iTunes or other digital platforms (like Google Play) on your Amazon Fire tablet was ridiculous. After all, there is no such thing as an iTunes app for your Fire tablet, and most tech companies like to keep their entertainment locked up on individual platforms to keep you in their ecosystem. But this past October, Disney partnered with nearly every media studio and movie rental company like Amazon, Google, Apple, and Vudu to make it easier than ever to share your movies across platforms.
Dubbed Movies Anywhere and based on the original Disney Movies Anywhere platform that the media giant has been using for years, the service allows you to sync your library between Amazon, Google, Apple, and Vudu to keep all your movies together in one digital closet that is shared between platforms. As long as your movie collection is made up of movies from partner studios (which includes all the big names outside of Paramount who are considering joining the platform), signing up for a Movies Anywhere account will allow your movies to sync across devices.
Go to the Movies Anywhere site and create an account. Once the account is activated, you will be asked to sync as many media accounts as you can. To sync your iTunes library with your Amazon account, simply log into both platforms with your username and password, and you will see your library synced between both accounts. This means, for example, that if you have already purchased movies on both iTunes and Amazon, you will see these movies populate both on your iTunes account and on your Amazon account. You can sync all four accounts to ensure your cross-platform library appears across devices, and if you sync two or more accounts (at the time of writing), you will receive five free movies as a gift to your account, including The Lego Movie andJason Bourne .
Once you’ve synced your library, you can download the Movies Anywhere app on your tablet, or simply use the library option on the Videos tab to download your movies for offline viewing. Since the synced library will appear as Amazon content, just follow the same steps above to download the movies for offline viewing. They will appear in the “Library” section of the videos tab on the home screen and can be saved indefinitely on your device.
Downloading Streaming Movies on Netflix
Lastly, any Netflix user can also use the Netflix app to download selected movies and TV shows from the Netflix app to their Fire tablet for offline viewing. Not all Netflix movies or shows work properly or can be downloaded for offline viewing on Netflix, and there are some limitations, but for the most part, anyone who wants to stream Netflix content wherever they go, without using your data plan, you can with your Fire tablet.
If you haven’t already, you will need to dive into the Amazon Appstore to download Netflix and sign in with your account. You will have to download the application to your device from the Appstore, and once you have logged in, select the appropriate account or profile associated with your own Netflix list and settings. To download content from Netflix to your Fire tablet, simply search for the content you want to download and load the page for the show or movie on your device. As with Amazon Prime, not everything is downloadable to your device, and you may encounter movies or shows that just can’t be downloaded. In our experience, almost all Netflix Original can be downloaded and stored, as well as a wide variety of third-party content such as The Boss Baby.or How the Grinch Stole Christmas. TV shows like Riverdale can also be downloaded, but some shows like Gilmore Girls or Shameless cannot be downloaded to the device. Likewise, Disney movies like Incredibles 2 or Lilo and Stitch are also not downloadable, even if competition from Dreamworks allows it.
In general, you will have to take everything on a case-by-case basis when streaming on Netflix. If the option is there, you will see the Download icon appear next to the option to add the movie to your list and rate the content, or you will see the icon appear next to each episode title of a television series. You can find the downloaded series by tapping the menu button in the upper left corner and tapping the “My Downloads” option from this list. The downloaded media list will show the size of the download and you can select the items you want to remove using the icon at the top of the page. Finally, you can adjust the download settings by scrolling to the bottom of the list and tapping the “Application settings” option. From there, you can change the quality of the download video,
As with Amazon Prime, there are some limits on what you can do with downloading content to your devices. Some movies expire after a certain time of being downloaded to your device, and as with Amazon Prime, some movies or TV episodes expire 48 hours after you start watching them. You can renew and redownload these titles, but some titles can only be downloaded or renewed a certain number of times before that content is blocked from downloading. Download limits depend on the studio and distributor behind the movie or show, and each limit is set on a case-by-case basis. You’ll receive a warning from Netflix before you hit your final download count, along with a date for that specific title.
