There are many reasons why you may want to block a certain number. Whether you’re getting too many spam calls or an old flame won’t go out, you have the right to tell callers, “No thanks.” After all, it’s your phone, your time, and your life. There are a variety of ways to accomplish this task. Many cell service providers have their own methods of blocking calls, as well as different types of phones. Below we have shared call blocking methods for three of the most popular service providers and for iPhone and Android devices.
Let’s start with what is widely considered the best and most popular service provider. Verizon has a simple system for blocking numbers on cell phones or land lines.
Block calls to your cell phone
Verizon allows users to block up to five lines on your cell phone or family plan for 90 days free. You can do it on a desktop computer or through the Verizon app.

Block calls to your landline
Verizon calls this Call Block landline phone service . Allows members to immediately block incoming calls from certain numbers. When a person who is blocked tries to call you, they will hear a message that your number is not currently accepting calls.
If you want to disable call blocking on your landline phone, dial *80.
AT&T
AT&T also allows you to block calls to cell phones or landlines by following the steps below.
Block calls to your cell phone
AT&T Call Protect allows you to block as many calls as you want for 30 days. Blocks can be renewed using the AT&T app. Set up call protection by following the steps below.
You will be taken to a page where you can manage the numbers on your block list.
Block calls to your landline
First of all, call blocking for numbers with 900 and 976 area codes is automatically blocked for free. To block additional numbers on your landline, follow these steps.
Just like with Verizon, you can disable Call Blocking by pressing *80.
Sprint
Sprint makes blocking numbers extremely easy and simple. Note that you need the proper permissions to be able to block callers this way.
If you want to remove a number to start accepting calls again, simply return to this area and click Remove next to the number in question.
Block using your device
iPhone
If you have an iPhone and want to block a number, these simple steps can make it happen. Keep in mind that blocking a call or contact will block calls, text messages, and FaceTime calls.
If you want to block an entire contact, including all numbers associated with that contact, do the following.
- 1. Go to Settings>Phone>Block call and identification>Block contact

- Select the contacts you want to block.
You can easily return to this location to unblock the contacts.
Android
Just like with the iPhone, Android call blocking will also block messages from the same number. Block a number using the following steps.
Once call blocking is activated, all you need to do is find the number you want to block and hold your finger to open new options. Then tap on Block Number and OK.
Do not call the Registry
If you’re blocking calls because you’re tired of all the spam calls you’ve been getting, it might be quicker and easier to access the Do Not Call Log . You can do this by visiting their website or by calling 888-382-1222. Please note that your number will be added within 24 hours, but it can take up to 31 days for spam calls to stop completely.
